Union employees of Canada’s two largest railroads, Canadian National (CN) and Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC), were formally locked out at 12:01 a.m. Eastern time Thursday.

This move comes after failed labor negotiations between the railroads and union employees represented by the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference (TCRC). The lockout affects approximately 9,300 employees represented by the TCRC.

This lockout results in a stoppage of CN and CPKC rail traffic in Canada, as well as CN and CPKC rail traffic crossing the U.S. border from Canada.
